For assist training the assist force is set on the assist force slider. The number of repetitions and the interval time are similarly set. The program is started and the swimmer pushes the front panel button and swims at the preferred speed to the far end of the pool then turns to swim back to the start. At the turn, the E-Rack applies the set assistive force to the swimmer as he swims at maximum speed returning toward the start. The appropriate assist force is determined by a test trial where the assistive force is adjusted to achieve the desired training speed. This assist force will not be the same for all swimmers for any given speed. When swimmer reaches the start the E-Rack stops and the swimmer waits for the program generated signal to start the next repetition. The program continues until the set number of repetitions is completed. A chart recorder displays Distance, Speed, and Power. A vertical meter set on the right records and displays Training Session Time, Repetition Number, Assist Force in Newtons and Pounds for each repetition. These meter values are held until the next repetition is begun. The horizontal meter set captures and holds values for Average Unassisted Speed and Average Assisted Speed. The last 15 repetitions will be held with a maximum total of 30 repetitions for each session.
Sample free style Speed Assist. Swimmer swims out at preferred speed and after the turn an assist force is applied and assists the swimmer to swim at a higher speed with no additional effort. The assist force is set to cause a small increase in speed so the swimmer can become entrained to the higher speed and cadence. Distance and Timing Mark channels are turned off to give greater readability of the speed for stroke analysis. Lower left gives Free speed and Assist speed. Assist Force is 4 lbs. |
